NOTE METHOD OF OPERATION - Contaminated coolant flows into the system and
enters the
first stage of filtration, the magnetic separator. Here coolant flows under
the magnetic
drum and magnetically attracted material builds up on the continuously rotat
ing drum. As the drum
turns, the clinging material is carried upward and out of the liquid. Coola
nt drains back into the
sump of the filter while solids are removed by the scraper blade and deposit
ed in a swarf bucket.
Upon leaving the magnetic separator, the coolant is pumped through the secon
d stage of filtration,
one or more Whirlstream hydrocyclones, which are constructed of polyurethane
and have no moving
parts. Coolant aeration and separation of remaining grinding fines, grindin
g wheel particles, and
abrasive grit larger than 5 microns take place in the hydrocyclone. Clean c
oolant flows into the clean
tank where a separate pump delivers clean coolant to the grinder.
