Direct-Pressure Dry Honing is a recently developed process whic
h makes practical
the use of fine abrasive powder and glass beads for dry blasting. Fin
e abrasives are
used in dry honing equipment which can otherwise be used only in wet-b
last equipment
at much lower efficiency.
With a Direct-Pressure Dry Honer, all air is drawn from the bot
tom of the
blast cabinet. This produces a downdraft of clean air past the work a
rea, which
produces best cabinet visibility. Rather then relying on a system of
baffles to
reduce abrasive loss, all of the abrasive is swept from the bottom of
the cabinet
by the mass of ventilation air, which pneumatically conveys it to the
reclaimer.
Here the fine abrasive is efficiently removed from the air flow in a c
yclone type
centrifugal classifier, from which point the reusable material is drop
ped to a
vibrating screen for automatic removal of oversize debris. After pass
ing through
the vibrating screen, the abrasive is collected in a sealed hopper abo
ve the blast
generator pressure tank. When the operator periodically releases the
remote control
valve to stop the blast action, the abrasive automatically is recharge
d into the
generator tank for re-use.
Dust-laden air is drawn from the reclaimer after abrasive separ
ation and
is ducted to the dust collector housing. Here it passes through the c
loth filter
elements of the collector, depositing the dust particles on the cloth
surface. The
cleaned air finally passes through the centrifugal exhaust fan and is
discharged.
Dust particles trapped by the cloth filter elements of the dust
collector
are periodically removed by use of a mechanical bag-shaking mechanism.
When the
shaker is operated, dust falls to the hopper bottom of the collector h
ousing and
collects in a drawer type bin for disposal.
This unit was designed to etch glass on an open table thru the
use of a hand
held gun.
