A. Base - Fabricated steel weldment designed for maximum rigidity.
1. Hold down bolt holes and leveling screws accurately located for ancho
ring to shop
floor.
2. No special foundation required.
3. All weldments thoroughly stress-relieved to eliminate aging and creep
.
4. Cross braced and reinforced for stiffness and dampening of induced or
transit
vibrations.
5. All welds chipped on ground and free of splatter.
6. Exposed corners and joints chamfered and ground.
B. Worktable
1. Worktable will be 48" precision table with 8 tee-slots for "full circ
le"
rotational grinding.
2. Above unit will provide maximum 60" swing clearance.
3. Lubrication access and coolant shielding will be provided.
4. Rotational mode will provide variable speed form 0 to 40 RPM
C. Grinding Spindles
1. Reversible precision Pope spindles will be interchangeable for ease o
f maintenance.
2. The spindle will be precision balanced, and arranged for mounting hea
vy-duty wheel
dresser.
3. Grinding wheel spindle run-out and camming shall not exceed .0002" T.
I.R. with
wheel in place either perpendicular to the base or set off at any ang
le.
4. Spindle design will enable the use of 12" diameter grinding wheels, w
ith wheel life
to 5" diameter.
5. Drive motors are 10 HP, 1755 RPM. Optional variable speed was provide

D. Grinding Wheel Dresser
1. Latest diamond roll dresser is of rigid design and provides error pro
of infeed control
through precision servo motors.
2. Precise infeed adjustment variable from .0001 to .005"/dress with "pa
use" cycle
between feed pulses for optimum dressing performance.
3. Units will facilitate 1-1/4" stack of 4" diameter diamond rolls.
4. Dresser will incorporate wheel guard to enclose 180 degrees of grindi
ng
wheel for operator safety.
5. Positive hydraulic drive for diamond roll spindle.

E. Horizontal Slides
1. Electronic servo motor provides positioning control Jog direction is
reversible.
2. Traverse rate is 40" per minute.
3. Horizontal slide movement is 40" (38" from table center to outboard p
osition),
and shall be parallel to table surface within .002" across table radi
us.
4. Preloaded ball screw will be used for accuracy and stiffness.
F. Vertical Slides
1. The vertical slide movement shall be 21" and shall not deviate from a
straight line
perpendicular to the worktable by more than .001" at the side and .00
2" at the front
in total travel of the slide. Traverse rate is 40" per minute.
2. Vertical position controlled by electronic servo motor.
3. Preloaded ball actuator screws will be used for accuracy and stiffnes
s.
4. All slide way shall be provide with adjustable gibs, dowelled in loca
tion,
individually lubricated and adjusted by set screw.
G. Angle Slides
1. Grinding spindle will be mounted to angle slide.
2. Angle slide will have variable feed capability in pulse increments of
.0001" to 020"
per minute, by electronic motor.
3. Automatic sequencing from coarse to fine feed by controller.
4. Traverse rate will be 10 IPM.
5. Slide will swivel + or 90 degrees from vertical.
6. Total slide travel will be 6"
7. Attached dresser will dress wheel during the grind cycle to eliminate
dressing time.
8. Automatic compensation will maintain correct zero position whenever d
ress occurs.
H. Control System (Angle Slide)
1. Modern programmable Fanuc CNC and electronic motor drives will provid
e
compact and trouble-free solid state control system.
2. System will provide precise zero stop function and retract to start p
osition.
Auxiliary positions can be programmed to change feed rate, initiate d
ress, or
whatever other control functions might be desired.
3. Indicating lights will provide operator reference as to cycle positio
n.
4. Visual displays will show wheel position form "zero", as well as, hor
izontal and
vertical slide locations.
I. Coolant
1. The coolant system shall have a capacity of 150 gallons of coolant an
d be equipped
with a pump having an output capacity of 20 gallons per minute at 30
P.S.I.

J. Operator Consoles
1. The principal control stations shall be mounted on the front side of
the machine.
The control stations shall contain, but not be limited to, the follow
ing electrical
controls
a. Start and stop buttons for the grinding head of the machine.
b. Emergency stop button to shut-off the entire machine with a single
control
button.
c. Table start and stop. (On separate pendant)
d. Coolant start and stop.
e. Dresser control buttons.
f. Feed, traverse and direction controls for horizontal, vertical,
angle & dresser slide movements.
g. Indicating lights for visual reference of cycle status.
K. Lubrication
All sliding way surfaces will be automatically lubricated with force fee
d lubricator.
Lubrication pump will be interlocked with grinding spindle to function w
hen needed.
Grinding spindle is permanently lubricated as are all other electric mot
ors. Feed
screws are lubricated according to manufacturers specifications.
L. Hydraulic Unit
All hydraulic units will comply with J.I.C. and N.M.T.B.A. standards wit
h controls
integrated as required.
M. Electrical
Machine input will be 480 Volts, 60 Cycles, 3 Phase, Heavy duty oil tigh
t safety
switches will be provide on all moving slides to prevent overtravel or t
o limit required
movements.
N. Painting - Will be one color, type and specification of customer.
